What it covers
EN 62368-1 sets the electrical and mechanical safety requirements for audio/video equipment, IT equipment, and communication technology equipment — the broad category most consumer electronics fall into. It assesses hazards directly (electric shock, fire, heat, mechanical injury) rather than applying different rules depending on whether a product happens to be classified as "audio-video" or "IT" equipment.
What it replaced
Before EN 62368-1, this space was split between EN 60950-1 (IT equipment) and EN 60065 (audio/video equipment) — two separate standards with their own separate compliance routes for products that, functionally, often did similar things. EN 62368-1 consolidated the two into one hazard-based standard, which is why most new consumer electronics are now tested against it rather than either predecessor.
Questions
Do older products certified under EN 60950-1 or EN 60065 need retesting?

Does EN 62368-1 cover radio compliance too?
No — it's a safety standard. Radio-enabled products also need to meet the relevant radio-equipment requirements (RED in the EU, for example) separately; EN 62368-1 addresses electrical/mechanical safety, not RF performance.
Is EN 62368-1 the same in the UK as the EU?
The UK recognises an equivalent designated standard under UKCA. The technical content is closely aligned with the EU harmonised version, but check the current UK designation for the product's specific edition/amendment.
